History and background – Magellan Biosciences, Inc. was established in October 2004 through the combination of ESA Biosciences and Dynex Technologies – which addressed emerging growth markets in biomedical research and clinical diagnostics. In November 2006, we added TREK Diagnostic Systems. TREK is a global provider of products for microbiology labs. In September 2009, we sold our ESA life sciences business to focus on clinical diagnostic systems and tests to help clinicians make faster, more-informed treatment decisions. We retained our LeadCare business. Today, Magellan’s innovative products include rapid point-of-care systems to screen children and adults for lead poisoning; microbiology products for blood culture and susceptibility testing that help in the global effort to prevent MRSA and other drug-resistant infections; as well as automated ELISA processing systems for a wide variety of immunoassays – from infectious disease to autoimmune and food-safety testing.
